Summer Cleaning Tips For Your Windows

Do you want to get some summer cleaning tips for your windows? We all know that the spring and summer seasons are the best times to do some general cleaning. With the perfect weather outside, it is the best time for a lot of outdoor activities. That includes cleaning the exterior of your house – including your windows.

Ideally, you want to wash your windows twice a year. This is the best way for you to ensure that it will be well-maintained and will keep your home looking beautiful and well-kept. However, not all of us have the luxury of having a lot of free time on our hands. If you are one of those busy people who can only make time to clean their windows once, that is okay. We just have to make sure that you can do it very well.

How to clean your windows during the summer season

If you can only do your windows once, you need to consider it as part of your summer activities. The truth is, you can do it during the springtime. However, you will be very busy completing your spring cleaning tasks – most of which are indoors. To keep yourself from feeling too overwhelmed with the cleaning activities, it is best to schedule an outdoor summer cleaning instead.

So how can you complete this task?

First of all, you need to gather what you need. These include a large bucket, a squeegee and a scrubber, a telescopic pole that can reach higher than 6 feet, a microfiber cloth (lint-free), liquid glass soap, and warm water.

Start by filling the bucket with warm water and putting the liquid glass soap. Try to keep the suds low. Dunk the scrubber in the bucket and wring out the excess soapy water. Use it on the window and make sure to focus on the areas with a lot of dirt. Be careful in scrubbing to avoid scratching the glass. Make sure the windows are wet completely by working back and forth the window.

You will then use the squeegee to remove the water. Start from the top and work to the bottom – using long, even strokes. Make sure to wipe the squeegee after it reaches the bottom – before you bring it up again. Use the microfiber cloth to clean it. You can use the same cloth to remove the excess water on the edge of the glass. Include the window sill in the cleaning process too.

Tips when cleaning windows

As you are doing your summer cleaning tasks, you need to know the specific tips that will help make your efforts more successful. Here are some of them.

  • Don’t clean while the sun is too high. When it is scorching, the water might dry up immediately. This will leave stains on the glass. You want the weather to be sunny but not too hot. It will take more effort if you have to remove streaks as well.
  • Vacuum the frame, sash, and sill first. When you skip this part, the dust might make the water muddy – making the lower portion of the glass muddy in the process. Make sure you clean these first.
  • Use enough window cleaner. This is true if the windows are really very dirty. The cleaner will help soften the dirt. That way, you can quickly wipe it off.
  • Stick to microfiber cloth. Some people try to be smart by using newspapers to dry their windows. Experts reveal that this is a myth. It will make the summer cleaning output a bit messier. The same is true for those using paper towels. Just use the cloth and you should be fine.
